“LUCE DEI MIEI OCCHI” - OAK LED LAMP
This lamp has been made combining oak wood as the main element to hold strips of led lights, and purple heart for the base.
The light is filtered through a 30-50% opacity polycarbonate which gives an opalescence feeling and makes the light suitable to be either on a desk or to decorate a room.
The arms of the lamp are connected with an organic grey cotton cable to give the object a less formal touch, but keeping things elegant.
The lamp was created as a present to my wife.
DJ BOOTH
The DJ Booth was designed to overcome the necessity of two flatmates to find a suitable piece of furniture to store their vinyl records.
The DJ Booth was created with multiplex wood which was then finished with a primer and a final coat of black graphite paint to resemble the material of a record.
Originally the idea was to place an aquarium, but as you can see a cactus stole its place. Today the Dj Booth lies happily in a friends living room.
As per the most of my projects, I begin the design with a 3D model to make sure all the details have been taken into consideration.
THE “SALSA” LAMPS
The Salsa Lamp is a fun design experiment to prove you don’t need a factory to make nice design objects!
Everything started when I realized the amount of tomato sauce (‘salsa’ in italian) bottles that were piling up.
I have always been committed to recycling, but why not re-using? I decided that those bottles were perfect to hold a lamp.
I therefore sketched some 3D models and the lamps were born.
I played with both tomato sauce bottles and olives glass jars, two ingredients that should never miss in the kitchen of an Italian.
BATHROOM SINK HOLDER
I designed and manufactured two pieces of furniture for two bathrooms.
The drawers were designed to create the necessary space to host the pipes underneath the sinks.
In the double drawer version the furniture had to support a considerable amount of weight.
For this item, I studied and applied proper hidden reinforcements in the back of the structure to ensure its support.
GARDEN WOOD DECK
I am so lucky I have a garden! I made this wooden deck using larch wood. Exotic woods (like tek) are very common for this type of application, however this type of timber also presents several issues.
It is almost impossible to understand if the wood is sourced responsibly (most of the time illegal lodgers chop down trees from virgin forest), and even if the source is legit, the emissions to transport the wood makes it a bad resource in terms of carbon emissions.
Furthermore they are extremely hard to cut, and polishing is generally a real headache. I therefore decided to use a better option and buy larch wood, a very durable and resistant timber that is naturally present in all the northern European hemisphere.
This was quite a project and I’m sure my Dutch neighbours thought I was pazzi for taking on this project. And perhaps I am.
THE MUSIC STOOLS
The music stools were created to reuse a pile of old unused vinyl records.
The records have been glued together to create the seat.
The wood of the legs is reclaimed wood that I found on the street, abandoned next to a garbage bin. Lucky me!
I lost far too many hours working to repurpose these old vinyl albums, but all the hours were worth it.
These are a favourite stable of our living room at home.
